The 2018 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) came off at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The biggest music entertainment show in the calendar year started with a performance from Unsung Category winner Kelvin Boy followed by the Bhim Nation Boss Stonebwoy.

Here are five things we learned from the 2018 VGMA:

1. King Of Live Band Performance – Samini

The organisers of the VGMA demanded that artists perform on a live band this year. It was no surprise that Samini ‘killed’ the performance as he is tagged the king of Live Band since his hay days. He really rocked to the rhythm and it was incredibly exceptional.

2. Sarkodie’s Performance

Another performance on the night that Ghanaians by surprise was Sarkodie’s performance where he had an army of choristers behind him as a backup. Year in, year out the rapper flips the pages with delightful performances when on stage.

3. A night of awkward dresses

VGMA 2018 is over and as usual, the social media fashion police are at it again and this time Ahuofe Patri and Patapaa is on the lips of everyone.
The Boys Kasa actress, Priscilla Opoku Agyemang aka Ahuofe Patri was spotted on the red carpet wearing a morning coat and High hills. Awkward right?

4. Every VGMA and controversies with Awards

Could there ever be an award night without controversy? Well, this year was no exception. The top of this list was Fancy Gadam’s ‘totally cheat’ being adjudged the Most Popular Song of the Year. Obviously, nobody needs to tell us that Patapaa’s ‘one corner’ was supposed to win this category.

However, just like last year, and the year before, and the years before, before, this was another controversial VGMA.

5. Stonebwoy rules dancehall category

2018 has been a year of rivalries and controversies between label mates and dancehall giants Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy. The Bhim Nation boss won the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year for the fourth straight time at the 2018 VGMA.
