“Acting doesn’t pay” – Akorfa Edjeani

Seasoned Ghanaian actress, Akorfa Edjeani has disclosed in an interview that the movie industry does not pay as it is perceived to be.

She lamented that over twenty years of being in the movie industry, she cannot boast of any huge monetary gains or properties.

“I need money. Honestly, I do. I’m broke. But really how much do they pay actors? People do not know that”, she bemoaned.

According to the actress, she is very selective when it comes to the roles she plays because she has a reputation to protect.

Akorfa is also of the notion that, the Kumasi-based (kumawood) actors are being paid better and make a huge amount of money from the movie industry.

“If these Kumasi-based actors tell you that they are making money from acting, then that is true,” she added.

The veteran actress also revealed that actors that live luxurious lifestyles did not amass such wealth from the movie industry.

“They don’t get it from acting. I can tell you that for a fact”, she noted.

Akorfa also disclosed that she currently operates her own business which she lives on and it is nothing to write home about. “It’s hand to mouth business”, she added.

The beautiful actress premiered her new movie “Azali” at the Bank of Ghana auditorium’ yesterday Friday, October 26th 2018.

Akorfa Edjeani has featured in several movies including I sing of a Well, Gold Coast, The Cursed Ones, Children of the Mountain and SideChic Gang.
