AFCON 2019: Ghana beats Guinea Bissau 2-0

The National football team of Ghana, Black Stars who are currently in Egypt representing Ghana in the ongoing African Cup of Nations – AFCON defeated the African wild dogs of Guinea Bissau at the Suez Stadium today in their final group stage match qualifying them for the 1/16th stage.

The Black stars started a little slow as they missed several opportunities to score in the first half however they eventually picked up. Jordan Ayew missed his opportunity to score as he was blocked by a Guinea Bissau player.

After halftime, the Jordan Ayew redeemed the Black Stars by scoring the first goal; an early goal which uplifted the spirits of the team. This is Jordan Ayew’s second goal in the tournament and his 17th international goal.

The Black Stars improved greatly in the second half especially after the arrival of Acquah. The team became steady and Partey became splendid with his forward runs.

Thomas Partey scored the second goal securing Ghana’s fourth goal in the tournament.

Guinea-Bissau on the other hand has been unable to score a goal in the tournament and will be unable to advance out of the group stages. They return home with 1 point.

It was an indeed excellent performance from the Black Stars as they have redeemed the nation from ridicule. They have succesfully advanced out of the group stage into the next stage. They lead their group with 5 points.

Ghana hopes to win the AFCON trophy for the first time in over 30 years after it last won in 1982 when current head coach James Kwesi Appiah was still an active footballer.
