Ghanaian actress Rosemond Alade Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, has taken up a new Muslim name after ditching her Christian faith.
The brand influencer and socialite last week took her fans and followers by surprise after she announced her decision to join Islam religion.
In a set of photos from her conversion ceremony, Akuapem Poloo was seen clad in full Muslim regalia while holding an ablution can and a prayer mat.
The caption she attached to the photos read: “Alhamdulillah full Muslim now, thanks to the Deputy National Chief Imam’s Quran Reciter and his board for assisting in this”.
News of Poloo’s conversion was welcomed with some level of doubt with some netizens suggesting she’s just messing with her fans to generate attention as she has always been known for. But she has unveiled a new name in addition to her official identity to prove naysayers wrong.
In this new development, Poloo is seen a video shared to Instagram wearing a white hijab and indicated that her new name is Haniya, which means “happiness, joy and laughter” in Islam.
She captioned the post: “The name is HANIYA ROSEMOND ALADE BROWN(aka AKUAPEM POLOO) STILL @iamcardib SPIRIT TWINNY”

Her reason for the switch is quite unclear yet, but she is entitled to the right of worship as enshrined in the laws of Ghana.
In a separate post she said: “Finally I have all the Quran to read and steady so it guides me see the love is too much for me and I promise no turning back so glad one of my wishes has come to pass Alhamdulillah. HANIYA is my new name.
