A few days ago, BBC released its exposé titled ‘Sex for Grades,’ an investigative piece that exposes cases of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions across West Africa, particularly the University of Ghana and the University of Lagos.
This investigative piece has since sparked a national discussion on sexual harassment in the workplace, home, public transport, and other places.
Speaking about this issue in a recent interview with Naa Ashorkor on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z Show, actress Vicky Zugah revealed that it is indeed a reality in the Ghanaian movie industry.
She noted that most actresses venturing into the movie industry are so desperate to get top movie roles that they easily give in to sexual advances from movie producers and directors.
She said;
“ Sex for roles in the movie industry is very real. I won’t lie about. It’s happened, it’s happening and it will happen again tomorrow and it’s normal,”
She added;
If you are a woman and you are in the industry and no one is asking you out like a producer, a director or someone who is in charge isn’t asking you for sex then there is something wrong with you.”
