Asantes in the NPP to change the party’s name, symbol and flag – Dr Amoako Baah reveals

Dr. Amoako Baah, a prominent political scientist and leading figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disclosed ongoing discussions among the Asante faction of the party to rebrand the party as the New Patriotic Front.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Captain Smart on ONUA TV, Dr Baah revealed that the move stems from feelings of neglect among Asantes within the party, particularly after Nana Addo became president.

In the course of the interview, Dr Baah attributed the NPP’s defeat to two key factors: economic mismanagement under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his perceived arrogance.

“The NPP lost this election because of economic mismanagement and Nana Addo’s arrogance. Many members of the party feel alienated and sidelined,” he stated.

He also criticized Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, accusing him of being complicit in the party’s decline.

“Bawumia allowed himself to be used as a tool to destroy the party,” Dr. Baah lamented.

Dr Baah did not spare Dr Bawumia’s running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), condemning his controversial remarks about Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

In the dying minutes of the interview, he emphasised that despite the name change, the traditional colours would be maintained with slight modifications.

Additionally, the party’s iconic elephant symbol would be replaced with a new emblem.
