Asokwa: Residents defy social distancing rules as they queue to receive food from NADMO

Over hundreds of ‘stubborn’ residents of Asokwa, a suburb in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana have gathered today in a long overcrowded queue to receive food being distributed by the National Disaster Management Organisation( NADMO) as part of government measures to help the vulnerable in this lockdown period.

In a video that captures the scene, people pushed each other whilst in the crowded queue to get their fair share of the food as officials from the organization and security agencies tried unsuccessfully to maintain order, let alone observe social distancing.

The video after it surfaced on the internet has many Ghanaians condemning the disorderly nature of the distribution of food and the residents for defying the lockdown and social distancing orders amid these dangerous times of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Officials of NADMO are also in hot waters for not being able to control the people; this poses as a threat to all who may be around as the virus could spread easily should one have the virus.
