Nigerian singer and actor Olubankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W has shared a rather unfortunate story about an experience he encountered at the hands of armed robbers.
According to the “Love u baby” hitmaker, he was robbed at gunpoint and when the robbers found out he was a musician, they ordered him to sing for them.
Banky W explained that after the robbers stole his jewelry, phone, and other valuable items, he had to sing for them so they wouldn’t kill him.
The musician added that it was one of the scariest free show he has ever done because he had to do it to save his life.
“I recall that after a certain December 31 night ‘crossover’ service, I was on my way to the island after dropping a friend. On getting to where my friends were, I stopped and alighted. The next thing I felt was a slap on my face. Lo and behold, I saw four armed robbers. I opted to give them the key to my rickety car.
They slapped me again, saying, ‘Who wants your car’? They told me to move to the back seat of the car while they used my car to rob others. They took my money, jewelry, phone, and a cap. At one point, one of the armed robbers told the others, ‘Let us take him to Ajah and kill him.’
I started begging them not to kill me. I told them I am a singer. They then asked me to tell them the songs I had recorded. When I mentioned ‘Ebute Metta’ ‘Capable’ and others, the robbers expressed surprise saying, ‘So you are Mr. Capable? Sing for us.’ That was the scariest free show I ever did in my life. I had to sing to armed robbers”, Banky W disclosed.

The musician on November 11, 2018, declared his intention to run for the Lagos’ Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, representing on the platform of Modern Democratic Party, formed in 2017.
Banky W On February 23rd, 2019, lost the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency Elections to Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressive Congress.
