The Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Her Worship Christian Cann has sentenced the four remaining juveniles in the Bantama gang-rape incident to 36 months jail term each to be served in a Senior Correctional Facility.
In December 2017, a video went viral of 5 young men forcefully having sex with an 18-year-old lady whiles one of them records the disgusting ordeal. The video was later posted online by the boys and it received a wild outrage from Ghanaians.

3 of the boys were arrested the same day and the other two were arrested later. The incident occurred in Bantama, Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital.
One of the suspects who was identified as an adult was tried and sentenced to 7 years jail term on May 30th, 2018.

A report submitted to the court suggested to the presiding judge to sentenced one of the remaining 4 suspects who was standing trial for aiding and abetting the crime to 12 months jail term but the judge, Christine Cann rejected the suggestion and decided that all four be sentenced to the same jail term of 3 years each.
Family and friends of the suspect who were gathered at the court couldn’t hold back their tears when the judge pronounced sentence and the 4 boys stepped down from the docket.
The 18-year-old victim was given medical and psychological assistance by Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in the Ashanti region at the time of the incident.
After the sentencing, one of the lawyers for the convicted juveniles told the media that the judgment was too harsh and they will appeal if the families give their consent.
