It seems Barcelona is not going to part ways with the 33-year-old Argentine striker, Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi according to recent reports, indeed told Barcelona his request to leave the club.

This is reported by journalist Veronica Brunati on her Twitter page.

According to the source, the Catalans are not going to let the player go for less than the amount of € 700 million, which are spelled out in his contract as compensation.

Yet, the club remains unwilling to let their captain go, referring to his €700m release clause; claiming that his ‘exit clause’ expired in June.

According to the reports, Leo wants to use the ‘exit clause’ in his contract which allows him to leave for free after each season.

Messi’s legal team believes it’s valid until August 31 due to the specific circumstances surrounding the 2019-2020 campaign.

But, Barcelona insists it expired on June 10.

According to multiple reports, highly reliable including RAC1, the matter could be taken to the court.

If Messi attempts to terminate the agreement unilaterally, Barcelona is ready to sue the player.

The footballer decided to use the option in the contract, allowing him to terminate the agreement unilaterally at the end of each season.

Unfortunately for him, this option is only valid until July 10 of each year.

Last season, 33-year-old Messi made 44 appearances across all tournaments, scoring 31 goals and 26 assists.

The Argentinean’s contract with the club is valid until the summer of 2021.

Earlier it was reported that Barcelona will try to legally block Messi’s right to terminate the contract.
