Reports claim, BARCELONA legend Lionel Messi privately has the utmost respect for Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo after the La Liga champions added the Champions League to their collection.
The Spanish giants, Real Madrid won the Champions League for the 12th time after a 4-1 win over Juventus in Cardiff, yesterday 3rd June 2017.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the star man rose the occasion majestically, scoring twice with Casemiro and Marco Asensio also getting their names on the scoresheet.
It means that Zinedine Zidane’s side has now completed a league and European double, for the first time since the 1950s.
Barcelona, while not finishing the season empty-handed, have ended up just winning the Copa del Rey.
And Spanish outlet Diario Gol say that Messi has the utmost respect for Barcelona’s fiercest rivals after they won the prize.
It is said that the Argentina international now recognizes that Ronaldo is favorite to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.
The two players have long contested the game’s ultimate individual gong, with Kaka the last player outside of the two superstars to win it back in 2007.
Messi also feels that Real have been superb throughout the campaign and manager Zidane has overcome obstacles aplenty on his way to winning the trophy for the second time in as many years.
The 29-year-old supposedly thinks that Barcelona has been their own worst enemy, dropping points against the lower teams and leaving themselves too much to do in the process.
