Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has partly blamed Ghana’s current economic challenges on the esrtwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

According to the Veep, the country’s prevailing difficulties is not as a result of economic mismanagement but a quadruple of factors the government faces.

He attributed the factors to the energy sector capacity payment, banking sector crisis, Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Of the four factors, Dr Bawumia said the NDC are to blame for the internal factors.

“Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war were external. The other two, the banking sector clean up and the energy sector capacity payment were results of the previous government.”

Dr. Bawumia made this statement in a speech at the Accra Business School on Thursday.

He said factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic, banking sector clean-up, and the energy sector capacity payment pushed Ghana’s total debt to some $54.5 billion.

He elaborated that government expended GH¢15.6 billion on the flagship programmes within five years; as such they cannot be responsible for the country’s ailing economy.
