BECE Candidate Dies Few Hours To The Start Of Examination

One candidate sitting for the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), in the Ashaiman municipality is reported dead few hours before the start of the examination nationwide on Monday.

The cause of death of is not immediately known but it has been established that sixteen others out of the registered 3,664 candidates failed to turn up for the examination.

The main reason for their inability to write the examination is not yet known but source claim some of the absentees were reported to be sick.

Out of the total number of 3,664 candidates comprising students from 17 public and 124 private schools, 1,698 are boys while 1,966 are girls.

The Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Albert Boakye Okyere, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman Hon. Henry Ernest Norgbey, as well as the Ashaiman Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Mrs. Orleans Madjitey, visited some of the Examination centers to interaction with the candidates.

Mr. Albert Okyere advised the candidates to eschew exam malpractices in order not to soil the image of Municipality.

He encouraged them to do away with their fear and gather the confidence to write all the exam papers so as to pass with distinction.

He noted that during the last year’s BECE Ashaiman Municipality emerged as the second best performing municipality in the Greater Accra Region and urged the candidates to bear in mind and maintain it or perform better than their predecessors.

Mr. Albert Okyere hinted he intends to reward any BECE candidate from Ashaiman municipality who will emerge as the best performing candidate in the greater Accra with a package which will include a traveling outside Ghana.

The Member of Parliament for Ashaiman Ernest Norgbey also urged the candidates to desist from engaging in exam malpractices.

He advised them not to be frightened by the presence of the police officers since they are not there to arrest them.

“When the question is delivered to you take your time to read through and understand before you answer.

” Last year your predecessors did very by placing the second position in the greater Accra region but do better than them,” he urged.
