Whiles some church and NGO’s are putting up hospitals, children homes among other things, the Church of Pentecost has revealed that they plan to build a new ultramodern prison block for the Nsawem Prisoners.
According to the church in a news article sighted on citinewsroom.com, the gesture forms part of efforts by the Church to decongest prison facilities across the country which has been a matter of concern for some Ghanaians especially prison inmates.
The facility when completed would be known as the Nsawam Prison Camp facility, is expected to accommodate 300 prison inmates and will have a training workshop, an administration block, a church building, and a recreational facility.
The Estate Manager at the Church’s Headquarters, Pastor James Orhin Agyin, said that the project is expected to be completed by January 28, 2020, after which it would be dedicated and officially handed over to the Ghana Prisons Service.
The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr. Patrick Darko Missah expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye for the continuous support to the prisons service, noting that the new facility “is an answer to the age-long challenge of overcrowding in the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.”
But Ghanaian Veteran comedian Kweku Sintim-Misa(KSM) is of the view that it’s funny the government which is supposed to build prisons are rather building a cathedral whiles the church, on the other hand, is trying to put up a prison block.
He posted: “PENTECOST Church “ to build a new prison” Got to love GH. The govt builds a Cathedral and the church builds a prison. Only in GH???”
