Milovan Rajevac has nothing to offer Black Stars – Laryea Kingston

Ghanaian former professional footballer Laryea Kingston has backed calls for the sacking of the current head coach of the Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac, following the national team’s poor showing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

A disappointing 3-2 defeat to Comoros Islands ensured that the 10-men Black Stars were eliminated from the competition with just one point from their three group stage games.

The Black Stars finished bottom of Group C without a single win.

One person who believes that Rajevac should not remain in charge of the Black Stars is Kingston who earned 41 caps for Ghana.

Speaking to the BBC, Laryea Kingston was emphatic that Rajevac was not a good fit for the Black Stars and his tactical naivete cost the team in Cameroon.

“It was a disappointing performance. If you look at the team, there was no identity. How do you expect to win with no identity? Looking at all we saw in Cameroon, Milovan Rajevac has nothing to offer the Black Stars,” he said.

The Black Stars was the first team to exit the ongoing AFCON tournament without a single victory, and the first to crash out at the group stage since 2006.

In the aftermath of the embarrassing exit, the Ministry of Youth and Sports summoned officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to a crunch meeting on Friday, January 21, 2022, to discuss the team’s abysmal showing.

At the meeting, the Sports Ministry also directed GFA to review the coach’s position because the people of Ghana “have lost confidence in the technical team’s ability to deliver success”.

It was subsequently reported that Rajevac, 67, has been sacked by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

However, no official statement has been released by the FA who have neither or confirmed these reports.
