A mining site at Talensi in the Upper East Region has exploded, claiming 6 lives and leaving 4 miners seriously injured.
The explosion happened early Wednesday morning which is close to the Shaanxi Mining Company and left several miners injured.
Dr Christopher Boatbill who is the District Chief Executive of Talensi revealed the number of miners who passed away.
“At the Bolgatanga regional hospital, they had recorded six deaths and four others were in a serious condition that was being treated”, he stated.
According to the District Chief Executive, there are 30 0ther people who are receiving treatment at a different health institution.
“What I told the workers of the two facilities was to ensure that we get the identity of the victims because we wanted to know whether the people who have suffered this calamity are workers of Shaanxi Mining Company or are illegal miners or other groups of people that may have gone into the pit.
Other people that we suspect might also involved will also be invited by the police station to answer some questions”, he added.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Shaanxi mines, Maxwell Wooma has stated that the explosion occurred outside the Shaanxi mining premises.
“All these matters that have been reported are matters that occurred outside the mining area Shaanxi Mining Ghana Limited.
We subsequently reported it to the police at our side here and released our ambulance for them to take this illegal intruder to the regional hospital for treatment,” he disclosed.
The Shaanxi Mining Ghana Limited started operations on 28th August 2019 after its license was suspended in 2017 to commence investigations into the company’s underground operations and the death of seven miners in the area.
