Asamoah Gyan, the General Captain of the Ghana Black Stars has been ordered by an Accra High Court presided over by Her Ladyship Mrs. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba to pay his wife a maintenance fee of GH¢204,392.22 (Over 2 billion old Ghana Cedis).

Her Ladyship Mrs. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba of the Divorce and Matrimonial Division of the Accra High Court ruled that the money should be paid to Gifty Gyan to cater for maintenance fees for electricity, water, and other household utilities, etc

The amount, GH¢204,392.22 is to cater for the period of July 2018 to September 2019 which the court believes Asamoah Gyan neglected his responsibilities towards his family.

Reading the court’s verdict on the maintenance fee complaint filed alongside the petition for divorce, Her Ladyship Mrs. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba said:

“It is this day adjudged that the applicant (Gifty Gyan) recovers against the petitioner (Asamoah Gyan) the following; “Bills and other expenditure covering water, electricity, gas-£680, internet – £180, skype – £107.91, saloon and other vehicle maintenance- £200, home maintenance – £150 in arrears commencing from July 2018 to September 2019, totaling £18,450.74”.

Asamoah Gyan and his wife, Gifty Gyan are in court for a divorce. Asamoah Gyan who first filed with the court requested an annulment of the marriage. He went on to request the court to conduct a DNAT test on his 3 children with Gifty Gyam to ascertain their paternity which he has doubts he is responsible for.

After the tests proved all the children are his, Gifty Gyan also countersued for a divorce. She also filed a complaint of neglect from her husband since July 2018. She prayed to the court to forced her husband, Asamoah Gyan to take care of her and his children.

Although the substantive divorce/annulment case is yet to be ruled by the court presided over by Her Ladyship Mrs. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba, she delivered her judgment on the maintenance fee on Friday.
