Ace Ghanaian broadcaster, Captain Smart, has made shocking revelations about the death of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, claiming the musician once told him that he had been poisoned.
Speaking on Onua TV, Captain Smart alleged that Daddy Lumba personally confided in him about the incident, narrating how he unknowingly consumed poisoned food despite initially being suspicious.
“Daddy Lumba told me he was poisoned. He said he didn’t want to eat the food at first because he was suspicious, but before he realized, he had already eaten it,” Captain Smart claimed.
The broadcaster added that the late musician credited his survival during that difficult period to Odo Broni, the woman who cared for him in his final years.

According to Captain Smart, Daddy Lumba spoke fondly of Odo Broni, described her as a “loving and feminine woman” who stood by him through his toughest moments.
“He told me that if not for Odo Broni, he would have died long ago. He said she was so loving and caring,” Captain Smart added.
Captain Smart further expressed confusion over public criticism directed at Odo Broni following Lumba’s death, questioning why some Ghanaians wanted the late musician to leave what he described as “a young angel for an old devil.”
His comments come amid heightened controversy and family disputes surrounding Daddy Lumba’s passing, with ongoing allegations, legal tensions, and conflicting claims between his first wife Akosua Serwaa, his partner Odo Broni, and the late singer’s family.
