Two Ghanaian pastors have engaged one another in a heated debate over Tithing.

Dr Dan Owusu Asiamah of the Church of Christ and Rev Joshua Agyei Founder of Bread of Life was on live radio made to explain what Tithing is and whether it is optional or mandatory for a believer to pay his tithes.

A tithe is a one-tenth part of something, paid as a contribution to a religious organization.

According to Rev Joshua, giving tithes is understanding of how one holds his faith and therefore it’s not mandatory but optional.

But Dr Owusu retaliated by saying that the quotation(Genesis 14:18-20 – Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was a priest of God Most High and he blessed Abram, saying: “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.) he gave to support his claim should base on the fact that tithes giving should be optional and between a believer and God and not the church as many churches print and mark tithes of believers to ascertain the kind of help they offer during one’s hard times.

He also stated that if believers are to go by the Abrahamic covenant and pay tithes as he did, then we should also go by his principle where he sacrificed animals and used the blood for the pacification of sin.

In a quick response, Rev Joshua stated that the blood of Jesus of Jesus Christ has atoned for such rite and therefore it is of no need to continue to offer animal sacrifices to god.

The argument went further where it nearly turned sour but the host intervened and brought things to order.
