Danger Looms as Angry soldiers destroy voting materials

Some aggrieved security officials in the Tamale Central constituency in the Northern region have vandalized voting materials after they realised that their names were missing from the Special Voting list.

The aggrieved officials had earlier threatened to pepper spray the EC officials at the polling centre over the same problem, the report said

The officers, who numbered about 20, kicked ballot boxes, booths and other essential materials in anger, according to a report by starrfmonline.

It quoted the officers as saying that the absence of their names on the register was a deliberate strategy on the part of the Electoral Commission to disenfranchise them.

Today’s Special Voting exercise comes after problems beset the first exercise on Friday, a situation which prevented many journalists and security officials from voting because their names were not on the voting list.

The same problem has surfaced in today’s exercise, sparking anger and frustration among many participants.
