For some time now, TV stations that show Telenovelas that have been translated into Twi have received a lot of criticism not just from local movie actors and producers but also from major players in the entertainment industry in Ghana.

According to the critics, the influx of these Telenovelas in Twi are killing the young movie industry especially the Kumawood movie industry and should be stopped.

Film Producers Association of Ghana, FIPAG announced they will be staging a demonstration against these TV stations on the 31st August but has since postponed it with the new date unknown.

But it appears not all major players in the movie industry shares their frustration and anger against the Telenovelas in Twi. One one such person is Razak Immisah, the Manager of popular Ghanaian actor and musician, Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin.

Speaking with Zionfelix, Razak is of the opinion that, the demonstration it self is unnecessary. He has no problem with the influx of these Telenovelas that has been translated into Twi being aired on our screens daily.

According to him, producers should concentrate and make better movies because the qualities of movies that come out of late are too poor. Explaining further, he said there will be no need for these grievances against the telenovelas in Twi if better movies are being produced because people would have bought them no matter what.

“I don’t know when they are demonstrating and nobody has officially written to us about the upcoming event. I told my artiste (Lilwin) and other producers that we are not producing good movies judging from what I’ve seen.”

Lilwin’s manager, Razak Immisah further questioned the sense in FIPAG’s decision to petitioning Otumfour Osei Tutu II over the influx of telenovelas in the country since he is not a government official.
