I didn’t go to church to worship; it was a visit of friendship-Chief Imam

The Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharabutu has dispelled rumours that he visited the Christ the King Catholic Church on Easter Sunday to worship.

According to the Chief Imam, he wasn’t at the Catholic Church to worship but it was a visit of friendship.

“No, I didn’t go there to worship, it was a visit of friendship. Stretching a hand of friendship across the religious divide, and to show in a very radical way, that living at peace with practitioners of other faith is a possibility and this has sent a strong signal to the world.

This is the foundation of my relationship with practitioners of other faith. I am encouraged by this text to stretch a hand of fellowship…in the larger interest of society and humanity”, he disclosed.

The Chief Imam, on Sunday 21st April 2019 visited Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra to join in the Easter Sunday Mass ahead of his 100th birthday celebration which was on Tuesday, 23rd April 2019.

The National Chief Imam was accompanied by his full delegation and this move has attracted mixed reactions from scores of Ghanaians.

Though some lauded the National Chief Imam for his historic move which seeks to promote peace among different religious groups others also felt it was a wrong move.
