When the NPP government won the 2016 Ghana election, one of the main focus of the main administration was to seize stolen state cars that have been distributed to the party faithful by the then government in power NDC.
One person who dominated the headlines during these cars (V8) seizing era was Ghanaian actor and staunch supporter of the NDC government, John Dumelo.
The in charge of seizing and returning the stolen vehicles but to the state disclosed in a press conference that they have taken charge of two state V8 vehicles that have allegedly been stolen by John Dumelo.
John never said anything in his defense during that time. he was verified on social media. But months later John Dumelo in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM has given his side of the issue and how he got the said vehicles.
According to Dumelo, he bought the said V8 from someone but he refused to mention the name of the person who sold the V8 to him. But it can be recalled that the committee in charge reported that, John boldly told them Mrs. Laudina Mahama, the wife of former Presiden John Mahama gave him the cars.
“I will never keep a government car, first of all, I am not a government official so I will never keep a government car. I bought the car from somebody, I bought it. So at that point, I wouldn’t say it is a government car or not.”
“ When the National Security said my black V8 Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GE 8118-16 belonged to the State, just told them to keep it. What is a car?” “After that happened I just bought a new car. The truth of the matter is that this car saga is something that just happened” he added.
John used the opportunity to elaborate on his brouhaha and to render apology to the owner of A1 Bread
“Why will I mock a bread seller? Social media just misrepresented the whole thing. Why would I go and laugh at somebody who is selling bread on the streets? They just twisted it. But at the end of the day, the guy had publicity.”
