Ernesto Yeboah, Convenor of the Economic Fighters League, and two other people are currently in the custody of the Parliamentary Protection Unit after their arrest during picketing over the government’s plans to construct a new Parliament complex despite several calls to halt the project.
The incident occurred today in the Chamber of Parliament. Three people, Ernesto inclusive begun shouting ‘drop that chamber’ in the middle of an ongoing parliamentary sitting attracting the attention of MPs.
The three were immediately arrested by officers of the parliamentary security unit.
Economic Fighters League picketing the Parliament house of Ghana is just a tip of the iceberg as there is a planned demonstration scheduled to take place on 13 of July against the parliament project in collaboration with #DropThatChamber Campaign.
Several people have objected the project of saying that there are more urgent needs of the country that need to be addressed but the parliament is addressing an issue that does not improve the standard of living of citizens. This is clearly a case of misplaced priorities.
