Were you asked to log into Facebook again this morning? Here is why

Today, 28th September 2018, most Facebook users all over the world were logged out of Facebook and were told to log back into Facebook. You may have experienced this and was wondering what caused it. Well, there is an answer. Facebook was hacked.

According to Facebook, “almost 50 million” of its users were left exposed by a security flaw. The Hackers were able to exploit the vulnerability in a feature known as “View As” to gain control of “almost 50 million” people’s accounts.

According to Facebook’s head of security, Guy Rosen, the breach in security was discovered on Tuesday and the police have since been notified.

Based on the breach, Facebook logged out users that had potentially been affected by this breach today, Friday 28th September and asked them to re-login.

Guy Rosen explained that the flaw has since been fixed since its discovery but the extent of damage is not yet known

“Since we’ve only just started our investigation, we have yet to determine whether these accounts were misused or any information accessed. We also don’t know who’s behind these attacks or where they’re based,” Guy Rosen, head of security at the firm stated.

Guy Rosen added that “People’s privacy and security is incredibly important, and we’re sorry this happened.”
