Early Life

Yvonne Okoro is born to a Ghanaian mum and Nigerian dad but likes to call herself an African. Born on 6th November 1984, Yvonne comes from a very large family as the first child of her mother and the fifth of all siblings.

Education

She had her primary education at the Achimota Preparatory School after which she went to the Lincoln Community School and then to Faith Montessori School.

She also went to Mfantsiman Girls Secondary School after which she enrolled at the University of Ghana, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Linguistics.

Yvonne also went to the Universite de Nantes in France to study Press Civilization, Drama and Marketing.

Family

Yvonne has five siblings namely Martin Okoro, Roseline Okoro, Elizabeth Okoro, Kenneth Okoro and Raymond Okoro. Even as a celebrity, Yvonne still lives with her family as her parents are strictly against their daughters living in separate houses while they are still unmarried.

Her sister Roseline once took part in the Miss Ghana competition but didn’t make it to the finals. Yvonne and her siblings have an amazing relationship and they are mostly seen together at occasions.

Career

Yvonne Okoro made her screen debut in 2002 in a movie titled Sticking to the Promise which was produced by Theo Akatugba, a Nigerian Producer just after her secondary education.

Her major role in the movie “Beyonce” led to her major breakthrough which has made us a known face in the Ghanaian and Nigerian movie industry.

She has acted in over 150 movies which include, Mother’s Love, The Return of Beyonce, Pool Party, Single Six, Why Marry, I Broke My Heart, Crime, Forbidden City and many others.

Today she is one of the highest paid actresses both in Ghana and Nigeria.

Awards

Yvonne Okoro was nominated for Africa Movie Academy Awards Best Actress twice in a row in 2011 and 2012 for her movies Pool Party and Single Six.

She also received the Best Actress Award in the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards and also received four Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award.

In 2012, she was honoured with a Distinguished Achievement Award at the Nigeria Excellence Awards.

Marriage 

Currently, Yvonne Okoro is single with no children but it was rumoured that she was set to get married to her Nigerian billionaire but the actress refuted those rumours.

She also disclosed that she would not be dating or getting married to any man in the movie industry.

She also debunked the rumours about her relationship with the musician Criss Waddle and footballers Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan saying the rumours are bound to happen since she is in the public eye.

Philanthropist

Yvonne Okoro is not only a beautiful actress but also very kind-hearted and charitable. She has been involved in numerous charitable events.

She is also considered by many to have fulfiled her social responsibilities as a role model and mentor to many upcoming actresses in both Ghana and Nigeria.
