The Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye Antwi, is of the view that the failure to sack the finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta, in time caused the party to lose the 2024 elections.
The few weeks ahead of us are all about blame games, with the members of the NPP going to blame each other for allegedly causing their loss in the 2024 Elections.
Well, according to the MP, there was an outcry by the public for the President to sack his cousin the then finance minister Ken Ofori Atta because the economy was dwindling and that was affecting their livelihood.
He added that those in charge turned deaf ears to the comments from the public and rather allowed him to continue work until February 2024, when he was reassigned to a different position.
He said, “Keeping Ken Ofori-Atta at the post until February 2024 meant that we were not listening to the very people who voted for us, and therefore, we didn’t deserve their vote in 2024.”
“The electorate has punished us severely and taught the NPP a bitter lesson. Almost a third of registered voters did not visit their polling stations to vote due to apathy. This is a stark reminder that leadership must be responsive to the people’s needs, or else they will simply disengage from the political process,” he added.
The declaration comes amid growing unhappiness among NPP members and requests for a leadership review ahead of the 2024 elections.
Antwi’s words highlight the growing rift between party leadership and the electorate, with many asking whether the NPP can recover from its recent defeats and restore the trust of Ghanaians.
