Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla is a 27-time award winning Ghanaian Afro-pop, dancehall and reggae artiste as well as a Grammy Nominee who hails from the Volta Region. Born on March 5, 1988, in Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra.
In an interview with Joy News after his most recent show, the dancehall artiste was asked about his perceptions about the upcoming BET nomination and if he has any expectation of beating his colleagues to win, the Bhim Nation president stated categorically that since he’s been nominated a couple of times already and had won once, that alone should be a motivation for him to sit up and work hard all the time.
Stonebwoy is the first reggae dancehall artist to win the prestigious Black Entertainment Television award (BET) for best international act Africa and the second Ghanaian artists to have ever done that following Sarkodie.
“I have one BET Award already and be reminded that I won it hands down, it was not shared. And am still the first reggae dancehall artist on Africa to win a BET; is enough.
“When I get nominated, I will be happy but I should focus and grow because you do not have to win 4 times, 5 times to continue to work. Once you win some, you just have to keep running with it.
“If you get nominated for the same award, is a blessing, If you win is a blessing. But if you don’t, once you have it already, keep going”
As far back as grade four (4), young Stonebwoy realised his love and passion for creative arts, having successfully scripted and acted for the drama club of his school and also put words together in a rhythmic manner.
