The family of former Ghana U-17 football legend Kofi Nimo is in distress as the Ridge Hospital has reportedly withheld his body due to unpaid medical bills.
Kofi Nimo, who was part of the historic Black Starlets squad that won Ghana’s first FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1991, passed away on September 3, 2025, at the age of 51, after battling illness for several months.
According to his family, efforts to retrieve his remains for burial have been unsuccessful because they are unable to settle the hospital bills accrued during his admission.
According to Nimo’s son, he has tirelessly tried to solicit help from individuals and institutions, including some officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and several sports personalities, but his pleas have so far gone unanswered except for PFAG who donated some cash to the family of the deceased.
“I have reached out to some people within the GFA and former players, but I am yet to hear from them. I just want to give my father a decent burial,” he lamented.
Kofi Nimo is remembered for his defensive prowess and contribution to Ghana’s golden era of youth football.
His family is appealing to the public, football authorities, and well-meaning Ghanaians for financial support to help settle the outstanding medical bills and lay the late football icon to rest with dignity.
