Operation Vanguard the joint military and police task force tasked to protect the environment and water bodies against illegal gold miners known in local parlance as Galamsey has arrested 4 Chinese and 5 Ghanian illegal miners at the Prestea/Huni Valley and Upper Denkyira West Districts in the Western Region.

The following items were seized; a Lingong excavator, a Sany excavator, water pumping machines, 3 motorbikes, a Benz truck and other mining equipment. 2 washing plants and 4 changfans were also immobilized.

They are Chan, 55 years, Lin Chao, 30 years and Lin Chintong, 21 years and the Ghanaians are Appiah Dankwah, 23 years, Samuel Baba, 39 years, Adingo Azuma, 20 years, Mohammed Mustapha, 30 years and Atia Yendo, 30 years.

From what the Ghanian media has gathered, 3 of the four Ghanaian men arrested; Samuel Baba, Mohammed Mustapha, and Atia Yendo were part of the men recruited and trained by wanted Galamsey Gang lead, Bawah Solomon Johnson who went missing 4 years ago.

Bawah Solomon Johnson was the leader of a gang of galamseyers who were arrested in Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana in 2014. Unfortunately, Bawah was never arrested. But some of his gang were arrested and were sentenced to 8 years imprisonment at the Nsawam Prison.

However, Bawah Solomon Johnson is still on the wanted list of the Ghana police for recruiting and training gangs for illegal mining activities in the Western Region areas. Bawa faces 5-10 years prison term if he is ever arrested and found guilty of causing damages to natural resources and destroying water bodies.

Recently, the Ghanaian media was informed that one of Bawah Solomon Johnson gang members, Salifu Adamu Aka Kwabena who was arrested and was jailed at the Nsawam maximum security prison had died and the family is blaming the missing leader, Bawah Solomon Johnson for his death.

The police have since mounted more pressure to arrest Bawah Solomon Johnson. The family of the late Salifu Adamu has also promised a reward for anyone who helps to locate the whereabouts of Bawah Solomon Johnson the galamsey gang leader.

The only information gathered so far states that Bawah Solomon Johnson is hiding in Europe, specifically Finland. But the mother of this notorious gang leader is refusing to reveal the whereabouts of his son or confirm that the son is indeed in Finland as being speculated.

The Ghana police and the family of the late gang member, Mr. Adamu have promised to reward anyone who gives information leading to the arrest of Bawah Solomon Johnson.
