Growing up and in our basic schools, one of the national and patriotic songs we used to sing was ‘God Bless our Homeland Ghana’. I always sang that song without recourse to its powerful lyrical composition.
For the sake of this write-up, let’s remind ourselves the rich awakening lyrics embedded in this patriotic song.
“Arise Ghana YOUTH for your country,
The nation demands your DEVOTION,
Let all UNITE to uphold her,
And make her great and strong,
We are all involved 3x
In BUILDING our motherland!”
Let’s, therefore, ponder on the main highlights.
1. The youth:
There’s no way an Institution or organization can develop without incorporating the youth its activity or development agenda. The development agenda of Ghana can never be achieved and materialized without the concerted effort of the youth. You and I (The youth) have power! The power to make and unmake leadership in this country. Not the power to destroy and throw governments out of power unlawfully.
Ghanaian Youth! You are powerful. Don’t allow corrupt personalities and systems to influence your MINDSET. You are Ghanaian! I am Ghanaian and Ghana is us. Let’s rally behind the flag and push for the development agenda of this country.
2. YOUR DEVOTION:
Mother Ghana needs our devotion! The devotion and willpower to say NO to evil and corrupt practices. The devotion to keeping our environment clean and tidy. The devotion of the Ghanaian Youth to be ready to serve and be patriotic. The devotion of being servants rather than being ‘Masters and Lords’.
Where lies your devotion Ghanaian Youth?
Be a DEVOTED YOUTH and let’s RENEW OUR MINDS.
3. OUR UNITY
Ohhh I tried, tried and tried but I couldn’t break a fully packed broom. We have to unite! We shouldn’t allow politics and other nation wreckers who will not see tomorrow to plant seeds of disunity in our midst. Let us come together and start our own projects. Have you come across ‘Partnership and joint stock’ companies? Let us partner and unite with one another so we can start our own initiatives. How long are we going to sit down and fold our arms and wait for manna to fall from heaven? Our destinies are in our own hands. The power to make and unmake. We are our own advisors and vision bearers. Let us unite.
Remember; Unity lies in numbers and know that, UNITY IS STRENGTH.
4. BUILDING OUR MOTHERLAND:
Having sacrificed as a Ghanaian Youth, having Devoted and resolved to do what is expected of me and having United and reconciled with my fellows, there’s no doubt Mother Ghana will not develop. No one will come and develop my country. I am my own developer.
