Veteran Ghanaian actress, Naomi Kumiwaa Banafo has recounted how she was arrested in the United States of America for drug trafficking and why she was set free after over a year when they found her not guilty of the charges.
According to the actress, she was convinced by two men to travel with them to the United States to shoot a movie.
Unknown to her, the men had hidden cocaine in her traveling bag to make to appears she was the only carrying to the States when in reality, she had no knowledge of the drugs in her bag.
At the airport in the USA, the guys were two steps ahead of her and stood at a distance watching her as she goes through the security checks.
When the drugs were found in her luggage she was asked who she was with, she pointed to where the boys were standing but they were gone before the security officers got there.
She was arrested for trafficking and put before the court in the USA. She was sent to jail and she kept appearing before the court every month for 13 months.
On the last month, she was set free after investigations proved she had no knowledge of the dugs that were hidden in her bag.
“…I was in shock when it dawned on me that the guys had used me for their dubious ways. I was placed in jail and made to report in court once every month. After one year and a month, I reported to the court and I was told that investigations conducted revealed that I was actually innocent and will be sent to Ghana after a week. I cried my heart out like a baby,” the veteran actress recounted”, Kumiwaa recounted.
Kumiwaa was speaking with Nana Ama Mcbrown on her show, Mcbrown’s kitchen when she was asked to tell her most challenging period in life.
