Ghanaian film actress Martha Ankomah has stated in an interview that Ghanaian actresses are not financially sound in real life and that such glamorous lifestyles on social media are a life full of lies.
According to the actress, this reality is as a result of the failing movie industry and pleaded with the Government to come to their aid.
“Things are not ok with us. All the flashy are for social media hype. It’s just trying to feel significant in public and that’s all. Whatever you see on social media isn’t real as portrayed by the actors and actresses. The industry really needs urgent help”, she added.
According to the Glo ambassador, many movie personalities act for free just to keep the Ghana movie industry alive.
Martha also revealed that she was very disappointed in politician, Gabby Asare-Otchere-Darko who said he was disappointed in Ghanaian movies.
“I feel very bad but also very disappointed in what Gabby said. I’ll be so glad if Gabby can actually talk to the people who are investing to come invest in our movie industry”, she stated.
According to the actress, things are not ok with movie personalities and that is just social media hype, “You know I won’t lie, there is nothing happening so I’m begging you, movie industry, we really need help, we really need investors. What you see on Instagram and Facebook is not real”.
She also disclosed that one major factor damaging the movie industry is the influx of telenovelas such as the Hindi Movies, Mexican movies, Chinese soap operas and others on most Tv stations.
Martha also stated that the Nigerian Movie Industry is improving because every state in Nigeria has a cinema but Ghana can only brag of three cinemas which are not helping the industry in any way.
