Charterhouse, organizers of the annual Ghana Music Awards have banned Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy indefinitely for their roles in the pandemonium which occurred at the VGMA 2019.
Besides the ban, they have been stripped off all the awards they won at the VGMA 2019. They are to return their plaques. This news has angered some Ghanaian celebrities who believe Charterhouse has not treated Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
Reacting to the news, Ghanaian musician, Criss Waddle wondered why Charterhouse has decided to ask for the plaques back when ordinary Ghanaians paid to get the award for their favorite artist.
Criss Waddle wrote on Facebook: So what happens to the innocent fans if BHIM nation and SM Empire that spent their money to vote for them? Banning them could have been enough but stripping them off their awards you’ve given them already ? really? U can’t return the voting money to their fans but u want to take back your awards ???? #VGMA19
Afia Schwarzenegger called on Vodafone to disassociate themselves from Ghana Music Awards. She further advised Ghanaian musicians to come together and boycott the award scheme.
And who are they banning for allowing guns yes guns into the auditorium? Who are they banning for endangering the lives of people, who did they ban for the people that collapsed because of their incompetence, how did 1 sneak in a pepper spray? I am expecting @vodafoneghana to disassociate their reputable brand from an embarrassment and incompetence like Charter House. Also, musicians should come together n boycott VGMA…it is bias, they are using you and your intellectual properties for their selfish gains…Really how much kraa did ur so called award came with??? What is dancehall in Gh without @shattawalenima @stonebwoyb??? Charter House will do another Press conference and blame somebody Kyeiwaa or anyone that comes in mind but themselves. MEDIOCRE Tweaaaaaa be ka nyansasem na yen nka bi wosi Ban.
Sammy Forson, former VGMA board member said:
“In order to give music lovers some closure, I think the VGMA Board should have still announced who won the last two awards regardless of them being banned and stripped of the awards won. People spent money voting… My thoughts though…”
Rapper Guru couldn’t hold his comment back as he tagged Charterhouse’s conclusion as a “very harsh decision!”
Bridget Otoo tweeted:
“@CharterhouseGH if the votes from the Board and Academy are that important and they override public/fans vote then why ask the public to vote? Is it just to get traffic for your sponsor @VodafoneGhana? #ReturnOurMoney?”
Angry DKB tore into Charterhouse and wondered how they will feel if Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy demand for money equivalent to the campaign they did for VGMA.
