Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration: No grand parade as government announces activities for national celebration

The government of Ghana has announced the activities to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Day anniversary.

As indicated earlier by President John Dramani Mahama, the 2025 Independence Day would be celebrated modestly due to the bad economic situation of the country.

So the 2025 Independence Day celebration would not see the grand national, regional and district parades that are usually seen.

The activities to mark the celebration announced by the National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) include:

  1. Commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, February 28, 2025.
  2. Finals of a nationwide school quiz competition on Sunday, March 02, 2025.
  3. Finals of a nationwide debate competition on Tuesday, March 04, 2025.
  4. President’s school children awards programme on Wednesday, March 05, 2025.
  5. Ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency on Thursday, March 06, 2025.
