In a deeply emotional interview on GhPage’s Ghetto Life segment, a young woman known as Sekina has bravely opened up about her traumatic experience of being forced into marriage at the tender age of 14.
Sekina, who is now in her early twenties, recounted how her own father compelled her to marry his best friend while she was still a student in Junior High School (JHS 2).
The man, much older than she was, became her husband not by choice but by imposition.
A decision that would forever change the course of her life.“I didn’t want to marry him. I was just a child,” Sekina shared emotionally during the interview.
“I wanted to go to school, not become someone’s wife.”
Despite her objections, her pleas fell on deaf ears. The pressure from her family, particularly her father, left her with no escape — at least not initially.
Determined not to be trapped in a marriage she did not choose, Sekina tried to flee her matrimonial home.
She ran away not once, but three times. However, each time, she was found and forcibly returned to her husband’s house.
On her final escape, Sekina made a bold and desperate decision.
She fled to Techiman, a town far from home, where she found temporary refuge in an unlikely place; The local office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
It became a haven during her time of distress.”I didn’t know where else to go. I was scared, alone, and just wanted to be free,” she said.
