Arise Ghana has requested that the finance minister be detained when he arrives at Kotoka International Airport from abroad by the IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
Mensah Thompson, a prominent member of the pressure group, stated that the group believes minister Ken Ofori-Atta willfully contributed to the current economic hardship.
In a recent interview with Joy News, Mr Thompson urged the president to fire his finance minister without delay in order to boost economic confidence.
Recently, it was claimed that Databank, a business Mr Ofori-Atta co-founded, served as the Transaction Advisor for a sizable portion of the nation’s loans denominated in foreign currencies.
Arise Ghana claims that the minister engaged in a conflict of interest because his business benefited from the massive debts incurred by the nation, which are partially to blame for the current economic difficulties.
Arise Ghana gave the president a 49-hour deadline to oust Ken Ofori-Atta from his position or face harsh repercussions from the group.
“We are not only calling for a termination of his appointment, but his immediate arrest. We believe he is responsible for the financial troubles we are facing. A lot of them are due to conflict of interest and fiscal recklessness on his part,” said Mensah Thompson.
