The National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu has asked Imams of various mosques in the country to suspend all Friday prayers until further notice.

The President of the Republic Nana Akuffo Addo last Sunday in his address to the nation on measures to curb the spread the coronavirus eased restrictions on religious activities to allow 100 people in mosques and churches.

But the National Chief Imam has in a statement asked that all Friday Jumu’a Salat be put on hold.

According to him, this is to prevent overcrowding in mosques which wouldn’t be good in the nation’s fight against the spread of coronavirus.

Part of the notice released by the office of the Chief Imam reads;

(a) In view of the high risk of losing control of huge congregational sizes, pursuant to the directive of the president limiting the number of worshipers to hundred (100) Jumu’a Salat in major Masjid (Mosques) Particularly in urban areas, should be discouraged until further.
