Kwabena Agyepong the General Secretary of the ruling NPP was suspended prior to the 2016 general elections. He was suspended together with the National Chairman of the party Paul Awentami Afoko.

They were suspended by the party which was in Opposition then because the party concluded the two were working against the presidential ambition of the then presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo.

They were totally sidelined in the party’s 2016 electioneering campaign with Mr. Afoko consistently going to court to challenge the Council’s decision.

Kwabena Agyepong has shown up at the University of Cape Coast, where delegates of the party have gathered for this year’s conference.

Speaking to a journalist at the conference which is currently on going, Kwabena Agyepong said he was there to show his gratitude to the party for clinching victory in the 2016 polls

“I am [at the conference] to share the joy with them,” he told journalists. “my heart and soul are in this party. I love the party.”

Speaking about his suspension, Mr. Agyepong said it’s better to be a messenger in a ruling party than a chairman in an opposition political party as said by Former President Agyekum Kufuor sometime ago.

He concluded by saying he misses his post as the General Secretary of the NPP and that he could do more for the party if he was still in office.

“I do miss my role. It is service to my party. I still miss it.” the suspended General secretary said.
