In an exclusive interview with Ghpage, a man who claimed to be innocent but arrested and detained for getting into a fight with a police officer shared his sad story.

Kwadwo Adu, a bricklayer known among his peers as Boga Adu, unraveled the story of how he got arrested, dragged to court the same day, and ended up at the Kumasi Central Prison, Ashanti Region.

Boga in an interview with Ghpage’s entertainment and lifestyle journalist Rashad admitted to being a recovering alcoholic and a troubled man.

The middle-aged man who hails from Kumawu explained that one dawn before he took off to work, he passed by a bar in his neighbourhood to get some alcohol on credit but was denied by the bartender who was also the owner.

After leaving the scene, the owner of the bar where he was a regular customer came to his house later in the day accusing him of stealing her roofing sheets.

Upon denying doing any such thing, the woman asserted that he was the last person seen entering and leaving her facility and so he was guilty.

They both went into a serious argument and then two weeks later the woman came in the company of a police officer to arrest him.

Under the influence of alcohol, he was involved in an altercation with the officer as they both fell into a gutter nearby struggling.

The incident which happened 4 months ago, led to Kwadwo being taken to court the exact day he was arrested and detained for 2 months and two weeks.

He said, ” I got arrested and taken to court the same day. I was drunk and so in court i almost pushed down the witness box. The judge charged me for assaulting the police officer. She asked for me to be remanded at Feyiase Police cells for a week and brought back for further questioning later. The officer instead took me to the Kumasi Central Prisons where i stayed for 2 months and 2 weeks.”

Kwadwo Adu added that he was released after the owner of the bar found out it was her son who stole the sheets and sold them and contacted the Police to let him go.
