NPP’s General Secretary, John Boadu has laid down a humble plea to Ghanaians ahead of 2024’s polls.

The NPP lead member has urged Ghanaians to ignore the ruckus the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is making about the proposed e-levy because they will do worse when handed over power in 2024.

Speaking in an interview on CITI FM, he projected that rather than repealing the E-Levy tax.

The current opposition NDC party will likely increase the percentage of the controversial tax when voted into power come 2024.

He is reported to have said;

When we were bringing the ‘Talk Tax’, they kicked against it. They demonstrated against it but at the end of the day when they came to power, they didn’t remove it. They rather increased it because it was an innovative way of raising revenue.”

“So I believe that they believe this is an innovative way of raising revenue and I can assure Ghanaians that they will never withdraw this tax when they come to power. So Ghanaians should ignore them.”

Meanwhile, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has backed the proposal by the government to impose a 1.75% levy on all electronic transactions, starting from January 2022.

The e-levy, according to NUGS, is a “step in the right direction” because it would assist the government to generate income to address the country’s youth unemployment problem.
