Kechi Okwuchi, a Nigerian-American singer, was born on October 29, 1989, in the United States.
She was one of only two people to survive the crash of Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 on December 10, 2005.
109 people died in the Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 tragedy, including 59 Loyola Jesuit College classmates.
Kechi Okwuchi was given a 30% chance of survival after suffering third-degree burns on over 65 per cent of her body.
Okwuchi was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, for rapid medical attention and treatment, and then to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas, for over a hundred reconstructive surgery.
Okwuchi received a First Class Degree from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, Texas, United States, in 2015. She spoke during the Commencement Ceremony as a student speaker.
Okwuchi spoke at TedxEuston and gave a talk titled “Girls, Know Thyself.” Kechi later went on to compete as a vocalist in the twelfth season of America’s Got Talent in 2017, finishing as a finalist.
In 2019, she competed in America’s Got Talent: The Champions, where Simon Cowell gave her the golden buzzer and sent her straight to the final, although she didn’t place in the top five.
She’s performed at athletic events and other events all around the United States, as well as in South Korea and Nigeria. In 2019, Okwuchi will be the featured speaker at Utah’s 8th Annual Women of Worth Utah.
