Kennedy Agyapong, the maverick member of parliament for Assin Central has been found guilty for contempt of parliament and he is set to be suspended, Ghpage.com has gathered.
He was found guilty for referring to the parliament house of Ghana as “cheap and useless parliament”
The privileges committee which investigated the matter concluded in its report that “Mr. Ken Ohene Agyapong is indeed in contempt of parliament for the remarks he made that ‘Parliament is cheap’ and ‘parliament is useless’”.
Members of the entire House will in few minutes determine whether to accept the recommendation of the privileges committee and accordingly suspend the firebrand who is currently facing another contempt charge.
The Committee explained it did not consider expulsion as a recommended sanction against the MP because he rendered an apology for his remark.
“The Committee noted the apology rendered by the member and therefore did not consider as a sanction to be imposed. The Committee was however in favor of either a reprimand or a suspension.
Members of the committee consequent put the two sanctions to vote but recorded split, hence resolved to leave that to the entire House to decide the appropriate sanctions.
Kennedy Agyapong is alleged to have made the statement in June 2018 whiles speaking on Adom TV’s “Bedwam” morning show.
Kennedy Agyapong, however, denied the accusations filed against him when he appeared at the privileges committee last year.
