Kidnapped Canadian citizens rescued; 2 suspects in police custody

The two Canadian citizens who were kidnapped last week in Kumasi have been rescued by the police and two other suspects arrested.

According to a report sighted on mynewsgh.com, they were rescued early Wednesday morning at Sawaba a suburb of Kumasi by a combined team of police SWAT and National Security Operatives.

It went on to say the rescued citizens are safe but the driver of the car that was used in the kidnap who is a mechanic and one other person have since been arrested and currently assisting police with investigations.

The two Canadians aged 19 and 20 were kidnapped in the Ashanti Regional capital and a statement signed by Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police service ACP David Klu revealed that the incident happened at Ahodwo, Kumasi Royal Golf Club, at 8.25pm on Tuesday 4 June 2019.

Due to the kidnap of its citizens, the Canadian government alerted its citizens of violent crimes in the country including armed robbery and kidnapping and asked that never walk alone or show signs of wealth.

Their tweet 2days after the kidnap reads: “#Ghana: violent crimes, including armed robbery and kidnapping, may occur. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid walking alone or displaying signs of wealth. Ensure that windows and doors in your residence are secured”
