I decided not to comment about recent happening about the family of showbiz Icon Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KKD). In fact, ever since the news broke that his son has finally opened up about being gay, as an entertainment and lifestyle writer, I chose to stay out of it and allow the drama unfold. But I can’t keep mute any longer.
Someone may ask what really happened for me to break my silence. Well, if you care to know, KKD’s message he recently sent to Ghanaians about how he fully supports his son’s choice was the last straw.
In December 2014, news broke that popular broadcaster Kwesi Kyei Darkwah has raped a 19-year-old Ewuraffe Orleans-Thompson at the African Regent Hotel in Accra.
What made it disgusting was the fact that this 52-year-old man disvirgined such a young girl who could likely be his granddaughter in a hotel bathroom.
KKD allegedly promised Effe and her cousin he will make them the faces of Ghana Tourism Campaign and lured the innocent girls to the hotel suite.
KKD was arrested after the young lady complained to her family of how she was raped. Out of fear of being vilified by the media considering the position of KKD in the industry, the lady had to drop the case and refused to testify in court. The case against this iconic showbiz personality was finally dropped in 2015 but his image was already tattered. Nobody considered such a great man serious again.
Barely two weeks ago, Kofi Kyei Darkwah (KOD), the cousin and close pal of KKD found himself in a damaging s*x scandal when an old student and teaching assistant at the University of Cape Coast, Nana Abena Korkor Addo, named all the men who took advantage of when she had a bipolar disorder relapse. And right in the middle of it was KOD.
Nana Abena Korkor documented how she met KOD and the kind of s*xual relationship they had when KOD who is actually married knew she was in a relapse but still took advantage of her. If it is today KOD will respond to these allegations, we are yet to hear them.
By the way, KOD was with KKD when he allegedly rapped Ewuraffe. Whiles, KKD was raping her in the bathroom, KOD was enjoying himself with Abena, the cousin of Ewureffe who went to the Regent with her in the same room.
Just yesterday, Kweku Kyei Darkwah, the son of KKD opened up about being gay and how he realized he was gay when he was in the primary school but he had to hide it from his family and mates because he was afraid of being scorned.
We woke up today to read a long message from KKD to Ghanaians telling us how he supports his son for being gay and how he sees nothing wrong with his choice.
Yet this is the very same man who took musician Patapaa Amisty to the cleaners because he thinks “One Corner” the most trending song in Ghana now is not only senseless but demonic. Such Hypocrisy!!.
I can’t stop but wonder if KKD’s family is under cursed. As a true African man, a family which has rapists, womanizers, and gays in it is nothing but a cursed family.
