The family and foundation of the late former United Nations General Secretary, Busumuru Kofi Annan have confirmed the death of the late diplomat in a public notice on Facebook.
According to the family and foundation, Kofi Annan passed away peacefully with his children, Ama, Kojo, and Nina by his side.

Part of the statement reads:
“It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness.”
The statement further revealed that Kofi Annan fell ill in South Africa whiles on a trip and he was flown back to Switzerland, his base for treatment where he, unfortunately, died at the age of 80years.

Prior to this, the wife of the late industrious son of Africa, Nane Maria had called the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo to confirm the passing of Ghana’s son to the first gentleman of the country. She revealed he died peacefully in his sleep.
The Family and foundation further requested privacy as they mourn and make preparation to bid him farewell.
