Accra: One dead, others wounded as police clash with youths at Kotobabi

The police’s reclamation exercise at the Kotobabi Market in Accra resulted in the death of one and the injury of others when they squared off with the youths of the area.

The exercise was conducted by the police to evict squatters and clear the area which had become a breeding ground for thieves and other illegal activities including prostitution and drug trafficking.

The exercise which was sponsored by the Tema West Municipal Assembly to demolish the area took a drastic turn when the youth and inhabitants resisted eviction which led to a scuffle.

According to a 3News report, the Tema West MCE explained that his people were attacked which had to take the police to restore order.

“There were about 70 guys over here, they attacked the engineer, they attacked the police officers over here, so they had to call for reinforcement, and that’s what you’re seeing now.”

“Some of them even tried to pull the police officers, some even tried to slap them, and as a result, two people were shot, one of whom is currently dead, and the other is still in the hospital.”

Suspected individuals have been arrested.
