The Upper Manya Krobo District Health Directorate has lamented the district’s low Covid-19 vaccination turnout due to some widespread misconceptions.
According to the District Health Director, Esther Dua Oyinka, some of the reasons for the district’s high hesitancy include misinformation that the ruling New Patriotic Party government intends to use the vaccine to persuade district voters to vote for the NPP in 2024 and subsequent elections.
“Some rumours claim that if you are a man and take the vaccine, you will become impotent, which is untrue.”
“Others claim that if you take it, you will stop menstruating and be unable to give birth; others claim that if you take it, you will die and that it will send you to your early grave because you will experience some strange signs and symptoms in your body.”
“Some are even saying that the government has put in certain things to compensate for the vaccine to vaccinate them so that they will change their minds about voting for any other party except the sitting party,” she lamented.
