Morning show host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Kwame Tutu has charged Ghanaians to express outrage at the situation where tricycles are being turned into ambulances. The morning show host who was infuriated at the development slammed authorities for allowing the trend to go on.

One of the young individuals who was chosen under the Presidential Pitch will receive funding to transform tricycles into ambulances. The beneficiary received GHc35, 000 to transform tricycles into ambulances. In his view, the move is a threat to human life, inhuman, unlawful, sad and an act of foolishness and stupidity.

‘’I am not here to say something to disrespect any leader or infuriate someone. But there are issues going on in this country you cannot ignore. What I ask myself is that, as Ghanaians, is that our life is so useless, valueless, worthless and needless; that upon the revenue we generate, and the experience our leaders have, we will allow people to jeopardize with our lives by allowing tricycles to be used as ambulances?

‘’It is unlawful to use a motorbike for commercial purposes, however, we have allowed people to break the law and now people are using tricycles as ambulances. This is stupidity and an insult to Ghanaians,’’ Kwame Tutu fired.

Kwame Tutu believes the trend shows that our leaders careless about our health and so they have refused to put in measures to address the issue.

‘’Why have our leaders failed to inscribe on their land cruisers, ambulance so Ghanaians will turn to them when in distress? It is because we are not angry enough as Ghanaians and so our leaders are taking us for granted.”

“It is so alarming and disgraceful for President Akufo-Addo to give resources to someone to turn tricycles into ambulances. Our emergency service in Ghana is nothing to write home about. We are not fools and animals to be treated in this manner.’’

He called on the police service to burn all these tricycles turned into ambulances. ‘’The use of motorbikes for commercial purposes is unlawful and so it is also unlawful to use tricycles as ambulances…Ghanaian should be angry, Ghanaians should not allow this to continue. Ghanaians must be angry, Ghanaians must not allow this to happen,’’ the vibrant show host angrily called on Ghanaians

Globally, every country is expected to have access to 5,000 ambulances but Ghana was at the time having 1,000, 000 to one ambulance. Ghana has one of the poorest emergency services with very few ambulances that struggle to move through congested streets in case of emergency.

The inefficiency of the emergency system means people resort to private cars and taxicabs to carry sick relatives to health centers.

Currently, Ghana may be having over 1.5 million citizens to one ambulance because the current number of ambulances is about 55 serving about 30 million citizens. 56 ambulances bought by the previous government at a cost of 80,000 EUR or $93,000 each have been abandoned at the Air Force Base.
