Kwasi Aboagye secures injunction against Shatta Wale, Afia Schwarz in defamation case

The High Court in Accra has issued a significant ruling in the ongoing legal battle between broadcast journalist Solomon David Aboagye, popularly known as Kwasi Aboagye, and high-profile celebrities Shatta Wale (Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr) and Afia Schwarzenegger (Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa).

The legal dispute traces back to a TikTok live session on May 6, 2024. During this broadcast, the defendants allegedly made and circulated several defamatory statements regarding Kwasi Aboagye.

The comments reportedly accused the Peace FM entertainment show host of: Criminal behaviour, Impotence, Infidelity

These allegations were widely shared across various social media platforms, sparking significant negative public reactions and damaging the journalist’s reputation.

Represented by prominent lawyer Samson Lardy Anyenini, Kwasi Aboagye filed a Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim in late 2024.

The lawsuit followed the defendants’ refusal to retract their statements or apologise, despite a formal demand. Instead, the defendants reportedly challenged the journalist to proceed with legal action.

The court process faced delays as regular attempts to serve the defendants failed. Consequently, the court authorised substituted service in October 2024.

Despite being duly served through these court-directed methods into 2025, both Shatta Wale and Afia Schwarzenegger failed to enter an appearance or file a formal defence.

Due to the defendants’ failure to respond, the plaintiffโ€™s legal team applied for a default judgment. On October 15, 2025, the High Court granted “Relief 6” of the plaintiff’s claims: a perpetual injunction.

This injunction legally restrains Shatta Wale and Afia Schwarzenegger from making or issuing any further defamatory publications or comments against Kwasi Aboagye.

While the injunction provides immediate protection against further defamatory remarks, the case is far from over.

The lawsuit seeks total damages and compensation amounting to GH?8 million, alongside demands for formal retractions and apologies.

The proceedings will now move into the damages phase. During this stage, Kwasi Aboagye and his legal team must establish the specific grounds for compensation based on the extent of the reputational harm caused by the defendants’ actions.
